Hi all,
I have several programs I don't want certain people to know I have, and I'm wondering if there's a way to hide the programs I don't want others to find out about. I know I can password protect files, but can you do that to programs?

don't think so. As for hiding progtrams Ith only way you can d that is removing them from your start menu and accessing them through the run dailog.

You could encrypt the exe or the hoe folder of the program and then
decrypting it when you wanted to use... Or just install the program to a strange location, if you're into security through obscurity.

Good ideas both of you. One problem. They can find out what I have through add and remove programs in control pannel. The programs I wish to hide are skype, wave pad, my sound editing program, Numerous audio games, and I can't think of all the programs at the top of my head.

hmm, to hide them through control panel... not sure if that would do. i am sure there is software that lets you do it all there. As for other things, security through obscurity would not work really, because either way the program are still visible thorugh the add or remove dialog. One thing you can do, if you think about it, is to prevent the uninstaller files of those folders (like C:program filesskipeuninst.exe, or something of that sort) from running by using a registry edit. YOu must be careful though.

Maybe it's an obvious question, but how accessible is your PC? I take it you're not using a machine that you have sole access to, or an operating system like XP where you can either password-protect your whole environment or at least lockdown the PC when you are away from it?

I have xp, but my mom won't let me password protect the whole thing.

Well, she doesn't neciserrilly have to know. Another alternative would be to maybe use deep freeze.

I have this file encription program. I could copy the program files I want to hide to a specified folder, and encript the files. What do you think.
